Trieste is one of those corners of Europe that’s been tossed back and forth. It’s been under the rule of the Romans, the Venetians, the Habsburg Empire, and the Italian kingdom. Then after WWII, it became a free territory for a few years, before being split between Italy and Yugoslavia (now Croatia and Slovenia). For such a small city, it’s remarkably cosmopolitan and welcoming. I’d come back in a minute.

It’s coffee heaven.
